Project Summary

The HEAL project is designed to address the needs of students who have experienced trauma in higher education settings.

The primary objectives are to develop a comprehensive training program and guidelines for trauma-informed teaching and communication (TTC), with the aim of enhancing inclusivity, effectiveness, and support services within higher education institutions.

Key Objectives:

  • Comprehensive Training Program: Develop a structured training program and guidelines for trauma-informed teaching and communication.
  • Improvement of Higher Education Delivery: Enhance inclusivity and effectiveness of higher education delivery (HED) by identifying gaps in support services and integrating traumainformed practices.
  • Support for Traumatized Students: Improve the academic performance, mental health, and wellbeing of all students, particularly those who have experienced trauma.

Activities include:

  • Project Management: Monitoring and coordination of project activities.
  • Research and Development: Conduct roundtables, online surveys, and gap assessments to guide the development of the Trauma-informed Teaching and Communication curriculum.
  • Curriculum Development: Create online courses based on the developed curriculum, pilot test them with HED educators, and launch them through the HEAL Open Educational Resources (OER) platform and HEALingU app.
  • ·Educator Training Workshop: Conduct a transitional training workshop for HED educators to equip them with trauma-informed teaching and communication skills.
  • Communication and Dissemination: Implement a communication plan, social media and email marketing strategy, organize multiplier events and a final conference, produce printed materials, and conduct an impact assessment.
