Project Summary

OUR RIGHTS: A Training Program on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union is a mobility project for youth workers implemented under the Erasmus+ programme. The project was designed in response to the limited awareness among young people and youth workers regarding the rights enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the need to strengthen active citizenship and European identity.

The project brings together youth workers from several European countries and focuses on building their capacity to understand, interpret, and communicate fundamental rights related to dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity, citizens’ rights, and justice. Through structured learning and reflection, participants deepen their knowledge of key Charter articles, with particular emphasis on non-discrimination, fair working conditions, freedom of movement, data protection, and protection against rights violations in both offline and digital contexts.

OUR RIGHTS places youth workers at the centre of rights education, recognising their crucial role in guiding young people—especially those facing discrimination or vulnerability—during key life transitions such as entering the labour market or engaging in civic life. By strengthening youth workers’ competences, the project enables them to transfer essential rights-based knowledge to young people in their communities, empowering them to recognise, protect, and exercise their rights as European citizens.

A central outcome of the project is the development of an open-access educational handbook that summarises the training content and provides a practical learning resource on the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The handbook ensures that the project’s impact extends beyond the training activity itself, supporting wider dissemination and long-term use by youth organisations across Europe.

By promoting awareness of fundamental rights, democratic values, and shared European principles, OUR RIGHTS contributes to stronger civic engagement, social inclusion, and a deeper sense of belonging to the European Union. The project reflects the core values of Erasmus+ by fostering participation in democratic life, reinforcing common values, and supporting the professional development of youth workers in a European context.
